This is a rant. I put it here just because it overflows Mastodon.

It always baffles me that my fellow Taiwanese friends pop out “But … I can’t type that.” after I showed them some snippets of APL codes, as if they had no idea how on earth someone was able to type those squiggles. Come on, we use a writing system that we joke about how someone with last name 丁 gets more time on exams than the ones with 蕭, that people invented, and ARE inventing, ways to input the characters into the computer, which makes most computer keyboards come with three, sometimes FOUR, different character sets. Not to mention that we were brought up with a spelling system that no other Chinese-speaking country is using, which contributes to one set of the symbols on the keyboards and some strange passwords like “ji32k7au4a83” that confused security researchers.

So, don’t worry. You can type that, and it’s even easier than your native tongue. At least you won’t accidentally stuck in full-width mode.
